Carlos’ Story

Carlos Sarabia: YouthBuild Graduate

carlos-2I moved to Pennsylvania from Michigan for a chance to change my life from all of the negative stuff I was doing, not only for myself but for my two daughters, Ema-Zarie and Kylee. I didn’t have a job or high school diploma; nothing. I was to the point that I wanted to give up on life. Then I saw an ad in the paper to get paid to get your GED and construction training. I joined YouthBuild in January 2013. In the program, I got my GED and became the YouthBuild intern after I graduated. I met a good friend Joan Cruz, who was the Construction Manager at the time, and she told me about the Heat and Frost Insulators apprenticeship at Local 23. I became a member of Local 23 in August of 2013. I’ve been working since then making a good living. I am proud to say I’m a Local 23 Insulator and YouthBuild graduate.

Carlos is in Year 4 of his five-year apprenticeship with the Heat and Frost Insulators. One of his most recent assignments was working on the expansion of the Reading Health System campus.
